Parker
The ’99 season started out at Parker AZ the day after Thanksgiving. The winner was Rick Love, followed by the "Tito Mosquito" team of Ed "Tito Smith, "Tito Smith Jr., and Lincoln Peters. This was Lincoln’s first CSR race, his dad use to race CSR in the early 70’s.
Saturday’s CSR race was postponed due to a large rainstorm late in the afternoon. The classes that did not run were rescheduled after the kilos and Sunday. After 24 hours of waiting and watching kilos. Where a Pro Comp Runabout attained 133 mph, Sean McKean 127 mph in 500cc Hydro, and Bob Wartinger 83.5 mph in B Mod Hydro. These are fastest downhill runs. Uphill on the river is slightly slower. With the drivers suited up and ready to go SCSC decided to cancel the postponement of the competition races.

Dear Boat Racers,

On January 23 and 24 the Southern California Outboard Association is holding a race at Havasu Landing, Ca. This race will be for Inboard, Inboard Endurance, OPC, Stock, Pro and J classes. This is a new race site and the small casino that is at this site is supplying enough money to cover the expenses of the race. This gives SCOA the opportunity to make some money in order to be more financially secure for the upcoming Stock / Mod Nationals this summer. The goal of SCOA is to have a successful event, with reasonable entry fees, trophies for Sat., and a lot of boats. We cannot predict what the weather will be like and we are racing on Lake Havasu which can become rough, but this is an opportunity to acquire a new race site, with the potential of sponsored races in the future. What we need are entries. So if you want to get away from all of your poor weather and possibly enjoy a weekend of racing and good weather please come and join us.
Please accept this personal invitation and come race with us.
	Sincerely yours,
	Ernie Dawe
	Commodore SCOA

How Fast Can You Go?
March 6-7 Region 11 will be holding kilo trials in Oroville. This year there will be Region 11 records for competition boats. You don’t need to buy a special straightaway boat and props that will work on it with the motor "jacked to the moon"; you just run your competition set up with your fastest wheel. Since we will be running after the first round of world record runs, who knows what the water conditions will be like? It could be like a mill pond or "real" competition water!
Who is eligible? If you have raced CSR in region 11 in ’98 you are eligible to enter and go for the CSR record!
There are 19 drivers eligible. You must run the same boat (boats) that you qualified with!! (Tiger will be there and ready to roar).

Matt Boyes Tiger
Tim Cree Tiger
Tim Dwyer Tsunami
Roland Dechart	6-R
Ted Gansberger	Scud
John Littlejohn Tsunami/85-O
Rick Love 35-C/Z Craft
Dwight Malhiot	39-R
Donnie Morris	1-O
J.W. Myers Tiger/35-C
Tom Pierce Tiger/Gray Boat
Dick Rautenberg 44-R
David Rudge	183-C
Curt Schlosser	Tiger/Gray Boat
Edward Smith	350-C

I’m Back
After 36 years of retirement astronaut John Glenn & I have decided to return to what we enjoy doing. My name is Denny Paola. After attending Newberg, Oregon’s 50th boat race celebration & meeting Darrell Sorensen I got bit again. It has been too long.
Things have changed. I couldn’t find any BU or CU classes. Where are all those Mercury Motors? What are those 3 blade "ski props" doing on those motors? Where are those white football helmets we use to wear? Those orange suits everyone is wearing look hot & uncomfortable. Is everyone still paying a $3.00 entry fee to race? Why is a race stopped when someone flips? We used them as buoys. I have a lot to learn.
After teaching & coaching for 31 years I’ve retired. I’m going to combine travel & boat racing. I look forward to racing in regions 10 & 11 because some of the best drivers in the nation are in this area. You learn more quickly by partic-ipating with the best so thought I might as well get my butt kicked by good drivers.
While picking up my boats from Darrell, I had the opportunity to attend the NCOA banquet. Excellent food & good company. I met some great people who are very enthusiastic & love boat racing. A very enjoy-able time.
Thanks.
Anxious to see you in ’99.
