Good Competition at Region 11
Season Finale
Perfect California Fall weather and good competition was in order for the Shadow Cliffs race near Pleasanton, CA. With three different heat winners and point ties there was no one dominant boat. Brian Vincent drove “Tiger” on Saturday, even though he jumped the gun both heats he got the hang of it and was mixing it up with the other drivers. Look for Brian in a CSR next year. George Scott is improving and is competing with the rest of the boats. NCOA put on a great barbcue on Saturday night. Sunday, guest inspector, Steve Litzell from Georgia checked reed stop heights on all the CSRs.

Since there are some drivers adding 40-50 pounds of weight (or more) to their boat. A proposal has been made to the SO Commission for a possible weight/restrictor formula for CSR. This is how it would work. 475#-no restrictor. A lighter driver could use a restrictor and less weight. (example 425# - 9/16” restrictor) Through experience in 20SSH, a restrictor has little effect in top end speed. However it slows down acceleration, the same as adding weight to the boat.
If adopted, most likely probation at first to get the right restrictor/weight reduction. The light driver would still have the option of adding the weight and run with no restrictor. Let your commissioner know what you think of this proposal. It will be on the agenda at the January APBA meeting.
Work shops will be busy
this winter.
There are plans for new C runabouts to be built this winter in shops in Bothell, Enumclaw, Kent, Redmond, Seattle and Spokane, Washington. Also Chowchilla, Danville and Scotts Valley California and Post Falls Idaho. Andy Schwenk’s present boat is going to Jim Sturgil, in turn Jim’s boat is going to his son to race CSR. If all this work gets done there will be up to 8 new drivers for our class plus a number of boats on the used market for someone to snap up and start running CSR.
The neat part about this, is racers building their own boats from plans, kits or scratch . Needles to say business has been brisk in my plans & kit department.
