Craig Bowman Wins the C.S.R Title
Craig Bowman wins the nationals for C Stock Runabout at Lake Ming on July 28th. Craig was dominate in the class. John Finn finished second in the first heat, but a thrown prop blade religulated him to fifth. Ricky Montoya finished second with Bill Breaux coming in third. (see results at left), Rick Love, Matt Boyes, and Denny Payola also made the finals.
Banister wins Pick the
Winner Contest
Can you pick who will be the winner contest went to Buzz Banister (Buzz was the only one to pick Bowman first and Montoya second). He will receive the entry fee paid for the Sutherlin Oregon CSR race on September 5th. (Sponsored by Denny Paola) Second went to Craig Bowman. Rolland Decket gave him two nice pictures of Craig in the Top– O - Michigan race. Third went to Matt Boyes, $10 of gas for his CSR tow vehicle at the Sutherlin Oregon race. (sponsor Curt Schlosser).
Also winners from the guess the kilo speed contest are Curt Schlosser - Saturday entry fee for CSR (sponsor Darrell Sorensen) and $10 of CSR tow vehicle gas, Tim Dwyer (sponsor Curt Schlosser).
West Coast Showdown Coming to Sutherlin
Last year Sutherlin Oregon held it’s first APBA race. There were a few in attendance that remember racing there in the early ‘70s under the Intercity banner.. This is a great site at Copper Creek Res. Just east of the town. Last year 7 CSR’s made the trip to the race, making it the largest class of the weekend. This year more of the same is expected this Labor Day weekend. The course will hold up to 8 boats. If we get more a qualifying heat/ and last chance heat format can be used.
Make your plans now to attend. Teaming up with someone else to travel with sure cuts down on the gas bill and the three day weekend gives amble travel time. Pennywise Motel has discount rates for racers, also a nice indoor pool & hot tub. (541) 459-1424. There is also camping with showers in the pits.
Isleton Riverfest II
Racing returns to Isleton August 28th and 29th. The Isleton Riverfest II will be two action packed days that include racing, offshore boat “fly bys” with Howard Arrinson turbine boat, music and a military boat tour.
The action will kick off at 9:30 Saturday morning with racing. At 4 pm the Sea Scouts will have the 82-foot Point Class Cutter available for tours. From 7 to 10 pm there will be live music by two bands, Outlet and Separate Ways.
On Sunday the racing will start at 9:45 am. As usual the C Stock Runabouts are expected put on a good show. Prize money at the race is based on classes entries. The more C Stock Runabouts you defeat the more cash goes in your pocked. So get everyone to attend.
Pateros Apple Pie Jamboree Regatta
Another new CSR driver, Chris Alloway made an impression at the race. On Saturday, Chris had been unable to start the first heat but blew away the field in the second. On Sunday Chris went over in the first turn, the day’s only flip, but returned in the final a little duct tape strategically applied to win very easily. Drew Thompson and Denny Paola raced deck to deck in the first heat for another CSR close show. Denny won the race on Saturday and Drew on Sunday. These guys better watch out for Chris Alloway when he gets things straightened out.
A big welcome to another new CSR driver, Steve Jenkins. Son of Dave Jenkins. Ask Dave some time how he was “under weight” in CSR the ‘64 nationals in Modesto.
Minden Lake
Seven CSRs raced over the two days, Roland Deckert, John Littlejohn, Allen Sutfin Jr., Greg Steffen, Darrell Sorensen, George Scott and Curt Schlosser. Saturdays race was won by Darrell Sorensen. On Sunday Sorensen, Steffen and Sutfin jumped the first heat. With no points going into the second heat the trio were intent of making the best of it. This was by sure the best race of the weekend with Sorensen coming out on top to claim second place overall. John Littlejohn with two strong heat finishes won his first race. Ex CSR driver, Ted Gansberger said: ”the final CSR heat was well worth the price of admission”.____________________________________
