C Stock Runabout News From The West Coast #20, March 2000

Winter Nationals to be Televised on Speedvision

The Winter Nationals, Bakersfield, CA March 18th will be featured on a one hour show that will air on a Wednesday evening during prime time on Speedvision. The funding for this is coming from the Stock Outboard promotional fund.

How can the C Stock Runabout class be assured a spot in the program? The best thing we can do is show up in large numbers and have a good action packed race like we usually do. Make your plans now to attend the race. California spring weather, great race course, best pits any were. The race is being conducted by SCOA & BORA. The Stock Outboard Winter Nationals will be Saturday. This is an outboard race with Crackerbox the only Inboard Class added. There will be a one hour of testing for Stock Outboards only from 8 to 9 am on Saturday before the race. There is a $20 late entry after 3/10, checks must accompany your entry. See you there

Region 11 kilos are March 4-5, if you have raced your CSR in Region 11 last year you are eligible to compete for the region record. This is also a good opportunity to shake out the cob webs and get ready for the winter nationals. Ever wondered just how fast you can really go? Come to Oroville and find out!

No changes make to C Stock Runabout at the APBA Annual Meeting in Biloxi. The consensus was; It ain’t broke, so it doesn’t need fix’n.

Is there a 4 stroke in your future? Yamato has built a prototype 4 stroke engine. 410cc 102#, the same performance as the 302. The 302 is planned to be in production for at least 5 more years, possibly longer. Yamato wanted a 4 stroke engine ready to go incase emission standards are imposed on the Para mutual stadiums. This may be good news for outboard racing in the U. S. if 2 strokes are eventually banned. We may need to learn how to adjust valves.

Grants Pass on hold for 2000. Due to a conflict in scheduling, CSR will not be able to run at the Boatnik race this year. The 45s & SC will be racing on Monday May 29th. The Active Club of Grants Pass would like to have us race their event. Work is continuing to have CSR added to the event in 2001.

Thanks to Larry Darenille for all his continuing effort to bring CSR to Grants Pass.

Jeff Kelly was going to build a new CSR, but ran out of time and is buying a used boat. Also Bryan Vincent is buying a CSR from the Love Stable. A big welcome to both Jeff and Bryan to our class.

George Scott, has his new CSR almost finished.

He says it “looks different,

all the corners are r-o-u-n-d-e-d off”.
