LAKE MINDEN "SPRING FLING"

General NewsMany thanks to all. The setting, lake minden resort nestled in the northern california central valley. It all began thursday night with brian schemltz and julan arriving at the resort. The friday game plan was put into place. With the help of stu ford, the restricted area for the kneeler camp was erected, the race course was set . The necessary equipment trailers were put into place. Julian went with bill boyes to retrieve the dan scwartz rescue boat. before we knew it, our day that started say about 930am, it was 430pm. Where did the time go. Now with some quiet time, we prepped our race rigs for the weekends events, for our jobs would not be done till sunday night. With 30 plus entries for the weekend a good day of racing started saturday am . On tap was 3 days of racing in two, so plenty of water time for those who wanted it. classes that were strong in numbers ASH with 8, CSH and 20SS with 7. there were 2 norcal drivers taking advantage of the newly refurbished rent a racer program. Thank you karl bishop for all you hard work in the off season. THEY LOOKED GREAT! Sport c, crackerbox fielding 5 and 4 boats and the rest of our usual racing classes. Under the guidance of julian and teri, Race director in training stu ford, took to his new challenge like a seasoned pro. After one stern look from stu, as to say, are you running the show or am i?, I bowed in respect to my padawan and silenced my light saber radio and watched in marvel how well he did. I forsee my retirement as a race director coming very soon. The racing was exciting and tight . some old rivalries renewed, some new ones created. With some excitement by david hale in his 45ss, and only one driver getting wet, dave biagi, both days went flawlessly. Saturdays event was capped off by NCOA’ usual themed pot luck dinner spear headed by team schmeltz, o’ahara and brian. Once again they and the rest of the race teams out did yourselves in all the food. I know I will be enjoying sue waldes enchilada’s for weeks to come.. once dinner was finished o great showing of the race teams and family went over to the barn dance with a dj playing a wide variety of music. The p9 suncoast team came over in force, the locals who come out for the races and the park employee’s joined in. Julian had assumed a good chair, where he sat with the half gallon of reese’s peanut butter and chocolate ice cream and a handful of spoons. Everyone was able to enjoy the fruits of julians sweet tooth. But the best was yet to come. Imagine the surprise we all witnessed when michael jacksons “thriller” song came across the speakers of the barn . there was a local dancing the moves we have all seen, out of the shadows, comes stu ford. complete with his moccasin slippers on, gave her and many other a schooling on how you’re supposed to dance to the thriller song. It was like miachel j was there himself. Who knew? Right? Stu is one mysterious bag of tricks. Look for the video on face book soon. A great family gathering for all. Sunday events with no help from, me, went flawlessly as directed by stu and his beach queen teri ziemer. The weekend ended with the usual tear down of the course, Putting away all the stuff and once secured, awards were presented. With the help of his trusty side kick and rider extraordinaire ,brittney, julian handed the weekends racer bucks awards. If you weren’t there, they are saved for you for your next trip up. We did have the pleasure of baptizing two racers who earned their first , first overalls. korey fields in our nor cal rentaracer class and david hale in 45ss. After the gang had already wrestled korey t the water, they all just told david, just walk over to the dock and throw yourself in. well good ole jean mackay, took him by the hand and said lets go for a walk, and like a moth drawn to the light he followed, then alas, one racer regained his strength and picked david up and carried him to the water and tossed him in. My many thanks and appreciation to everyone who helped, raced and watched. Thank you, the teams from arizona, washington and the deepest regions of southern cal for making the drive to race with us. This was one of the most fun events we have had in a while……………………. . the weekend ended for me, stu and brian with a quick debriefing of the weekend and we were finally able to leave the resort around 6pm Sunday night Again thank you to team NCOA for all you do in the work you all did in making this event A good one Salt springs reservoir fathers day weekend is up next, your host EBBC. And remember minden 2 is now august 29th and 30th
